Multi-Generation Family Celebrates the New Year with a Safe Home
The family of Mrs. Dinh Ngoc Diep gathered to welcome in a new year filled with joy and happiness thanks to a new, safe home. It’s the new year’s gift that Ms. Diep has wanted for so long.
Mrs. Diep lives with her son, Mr. Phong, and grandson in Dong Thap province, Vietnam. Mr. Phong works in a water supply and drainage company, while Mrs. Diep made and sold ash cakes in nearby markets. They were saving their money in the hopes of repairing their home, but unfortunately Mrs. Diep broke her leg and was unable to work. The savings were spent on treatment and care for her leg, which is still unstable and limits her ability to work. Mr. Phong’s income is not enough to improve the deteriorating home.
Mrs. Diep had given up on the dream of a safe and cozy home. She simply wanted her family to live somewhere safe and healthy. Kids Promise learned of the family’s circumstances and constructed a sturdy concrete home that will keep them dry in the rainy season and cooler in the heat.
On January 28, 2022, representatives of Kids Promise handed over the home to the family in a celebration that was attended by the Local People’s Committee. In addition to the home, Mrs. Diep was given a bed, dining table, study table, 10 chairs and a fan. Everyone congratulated Ms. Diep’s family with the hope that after receiving the house, her family would be able to lift themselves out of poverty.
Thank you to Maggie and Wardwell Johnson of Minneapolis who made this home possible, and to all the supporters of Kids Promise!
