On January 11, 2025, Kids Promise presented the 60th charity house to the Tang family in My Tan Hamlet, My Binh Commune, Nga Nam District, Soc Trang Province. During the joyful ceremony, the family of 7 could not hide their happiness as the makeshift hut they lived in for years was replaced with a safe and spacious home.

A Hardworking Family Trying to Get By

Before image showing the previous home of the recipient family

Mr. Tang and Mrs. Thoa have always worked hard, moving from their hometown in Soc Trang province to Ho Chi Minh city at a very young age. In the city, they worked as laborers until life became too difficult due to the Covid pandemic. Following the pandemic, they returned to their home town in search of a better life.

However, because Mr. Tang and Mrs. Thoa left Soc Trang province at such a young age, they had no home to return to. Needing to make do with what they had, the Tang family constructed a makeshift home from the materials they had access to.

Their home was made with a tarpaulin serving as a roof to protect against the rain, held up by weak bamboo pillars placed on uneven ground. The home was only large enough to place 2 beds for themselves and their children. While this worked to stay out of the elements on mild days, the family had to take shelter on the porch of their grandmother’s house during stormy weather.

Family picture of the Tang family

Although their oldest daughter is married, the Tang family has four school-age children to care for. Needing to stay at home with her family, it’s difficult for Mrs. Thoa to earn an income. However, she was able to borrow money to raise pigs, chickens, and ducks at home. Meanwhile, the entire family relies on Mr. Tang’s income as a construction worker.

In this challenging economy, Mr. Tang applies for any work he can get – in or out of the province. Although he works incredibly hard, his daily income of 200k to 300k VND is not enough to set aside savings or spend beyond necessities.

A New Home Brings Hope

Learning of their challenging situation, Kids Promise chose the Tang family to receive Charity House #60. With his background in construction, Mr. Tang and Mrs. Thoa personally helped build their home to save on costs. Not only does this make their new home truly special, it demonstrates the Tang family’s determination to create a better life for their children and rise above their situation.

The Tang family’s new 44m² home is bright and spacious, with enough room for everyone. With ceramic tile floors, carefully plastered walls, and reinforced concrete columns, the new home will be able to withstand any weather and make the family safer. The new home marks a fresh and hopeful chapter for the entire Tang family.

Help Us Transform More Families’ Lives

Receiving a new home has been a life changing event for the Tang family, but being the last house we built in 2024, it also marks a full year of kindness from the community. This is a milestone for the Tang family but also for Kids Promise.

Help us continue building more homes for families in need by making a donation to Kids Promise. Your contribution represents a fresh beginning to all the families we help. Receiving a new home is the catalyst many families need for having a better life.

On December 21, 2024, the Kids Promise team, in partnership with fashion brand Perry Ellis, held a ceremony to hand over charity house No. 59 in Hung Thanh Hamlet, Hung Long B Commune, Lap Vo District, Dong Thap Province to the family of Mr Nguyen Thanh Phong and Mrs. Phan Thi Hanh.

The family, which includes three children, proudly accepted the house to mark a new beginning for the family. The ceremony was warm and emotional, as Mr. Phong’s family has long lived in a degraded house that endangered his family.

Family Background and Living Conditions

Especially during severe storms, the house was not stable, which caused panic and concern for the family. With meager income from unstable jobs, the family could not afford to repair the home or purchase a new home to live. Additionally, the eldest daughter of the family, Bao Ngan, needs special care, which has increased the burden on the family.

Kids Promise Delivers Charity House No. 59

Identifying the challenging situation for this hardworking family, Kids Promise set out to build charity house No. 59 to bring a solid, safe, and warm home to Mr. Phong’s family.

The new house has an area of 48m², built with solid concrete pillars, bright ceramic tile floors, and carefully plastered walls. This exciting gift of love from donors has transformed this family’s outlook on life, inspiring new beginnings. The handover ceremony of house number 59 is a memorable milestone in Kids Promise’s journey and a testament to the spread of love and sharing in the community.

Restore Hope with Kids Promise

Mr. Phong and his family are eternally grateful for the work of Kids Promise and all of the donors who contributed to building a warm home for his family. However, the journey does not stop after charity house No. 59. Other families in Vietnam are living in unsafe conditions and need our help.

Kids Promise strives to help children have a better start with basic needs, including housing. We thank Perry Ellis, as a long-time partner with BTM, for their generous donation to this cause. Every family deserves a chance and every child deserves a stable start. If you wish to join us in contributing to Kids Promise’s ongoing efforts to assist poor families in Vietnam, donate here.

Sunshine After The Storm

The new home is a beacon of hope for Mr. Son’s family of eight following an incredibly challenging time. Recently, a devastating storm caused their house to collapse, forcing Mr. Son, his four children, and two grandchildren to live in a makeshift shelter next to the ruins of their former home. With his income from farming barely covering the family’s basic living expenses, rebuilding was simply out of reach.

Now, this solidly built house offers not just a safe place to live but also a chance for a fresh start, bringing stability and comfort to Mr. Son’s family of eight.

Spanning 48 m², the beautiful new house is solidly constructed with reinforced concrete columns, white ceramic tile floors, and carefully plastered walls. It provides a safe and secure environment for Mr. Son and his hardworking family, helping them move forward from the difficulties they’ve faced.

This new home is more than just a place to live—it symbolizes resilience, hope, and a fresh start. Thanks to the compassion and support of Kids Promise and its benefactors, the family can now look to the future with renewed faith and stability.

In line with its September 2024 charity initiative and annual program for supporting students in highland and remote areas, Kids Promise recently organized a meaningful trip to bring essential supplies to students facing difficult circumstances. This year’s initiative focused on Son Lam Primary and Secondary School in the village of Ka Lip, within Phan Son hamlets of Bac Binh district, Binh Thuan province.

Bringing Supplies to Remote Locations

Son Lam Primary and Secondary School, located over 60 kilometers from the Bac Binh district center, serves nearly 1,000 students across three locations. Most of these students are from ethnic minority groups, including K’ho, Raclay, Cham, and Nung communities. Among the three school sites, the K’Luc location in Phan Son commune is the most remote, with 90 primary students facing significant challenges attending class due to a lack of clothing, shoes, transportation, and school supplies.

Supporting Student Success

During the visit, Kids Promise provided 90 students in K’Luc with essential items, including clothing, shoes, and school supplies. To further support students in need, the organization donated six bicycles to outstanding and hardworking students who face long commutes and lack reliable transportation. The value of the donations amounted to approximately 50 million VND.

Make an Impact

Kids Promise extends heartfelt gratitude to all the donors who contributed to this impactful initiative. Every child deserves access to education. Your contribution, big or small, makes a difference in the lives of these children, creating opportunities and easing their journeys to school. Life before the Kid’s Promise charity home was starkly different for the family. They were residing in a thatched house that needed extensive repairs, a project that was too costly to manage alone.

Beyond just a home, this project was an expression of love and compassion by extending a helping hand to a family in need. The new space symbolizes a bright and new beginning, allowing the family to settle into a space where they can feel both safe and proud.

A Safe Space for a Joyous Family

Vietnamese home with thatched roof. When they finally entered their spacious new house, Mr. Kiem, Ms. Xuan, and the three children couldn’t hide their joy. The charity house is about 45 square meters, with reinforced concrete columns, ceramic tile floors, and carefully plastered walls. This is a priceless gift for the family, helping them escape a temporary and needy life.

In particular, three children, Tri, Khoi, and Tien, although still young, soon understood the preciousness of their new house. Before this, the family had to live in temporary conditions, with a thatched house, mud walls, and leaks. The children were always afraid when night fell. Now, the children have a safe place to live without worrying about the wind and rain.

Gifts Beyond the Home

House No. 52 was built with funding from Mr. Ho Dac Danh and Ms. Kim Le from Grand Prairie, Texas, USA. Mr. Ho Dac Danh, University of Minnesota Golden Gophers class of 1994, contributed significantly to its construction.

Thanks to the generosity of Mr. Ho Dac Danh and Ms. Kim Le, the family has a much-improved living condition, and the three children, Tri, Khoi, and Tien, now have a solid environment where they can study, learn, and grow.

Kids Promise also gave the family essential items, including a fan, a dining table, ten chairs, a bicycle, desks, school clothes, and shoes for the children. These gifts will improve the family’s living conditions and support the three children’s studies!

The ceremony ended with an overwhelming feeling of joy. Seeing Mr. Kiem’s family receive their new house will continue motivating us at Kids Promise to bring hope to families in similarly difficult situations.
