Despite Rainy Season Challenges, Kids Promise Builds 31st Charity Home to Give Children a Brighter Future
Mr. Nguyen Vinh Khut and Mrs. Pham Thi Hen live in the Tan Hiep district of Kien Giang province in Vietnam with their three children, the youngest of whom is just two years old. Mr. Khut was born and raised in the area, but gave up schooling at a young age to become a hired farmer.
After getting married, he also worked as a temporary construction worker. From his hard work, he had saved a sum of money to repair the home for his family. The home was near collapse, very small, and was not a safe place during the rainy season.
But an unexpected surgery to remove a lump in his arm dashed the family’s dream of a better home. Instead, the savings paid for Mr. Khut’s operation. Kids Promise visited the family and saw first-hand how a safer and more secure home would help the family and especially the children have a better life.
With the generous support of donors and volunteers, and after many delays from the season’s continuous rain and storms, Kids Promise built a concrete home with a cool tin roof and enameled tile floor that included a living room, two bedrooms, a kitchen and bathroom.
This house is Kids Promise’s 31st Charity Home and the last house of this year’s “Build the Future” (“Xây dựng tương lai”) campaign. During the dedication ceremony, the family thanked Kids Promise and hopes that people continue supporting the organization so that more safe homes can be built for the nation’s families who live in poverty.
