60th Kids Promise Home Gives Family a New Beginning

On January 11, 2025, Kids Promise presented the 60th charity house to the Tang family in My Tan Hamlet, My Binh Commune, Nga Nam District, Soc Trang Province. During the joyful ceremony, the family of 7 could not hide their happiness as the makeshift hut they lived in for years was replaced with a safe and spacious home.

A Hardworking Family Trying to Get By

Mr. Tang and Mrs. Thoa have always worked hard, moving from their hometown in Soc Trang province to Ho Chi Minh city at a very young age. In the city, they worked as laborers until life became too difficult due to the Covid pandemic. Following the pandemic, they returned to their home town in search of a better life.

However, because Mr. Tang and Mrs. Thoa left Soc Trang province at such a young age, they had no home to return to. Needing to make do with what they had, the Tang family constructed a makeshift home from the materials they had access to.

Their home was made with a tarpaulin serving as a roof to protect against the rain, held up by weak bamboo pillars placed on uneven ground. The home was only large enough to place 2 beds for themselves and their children. While this worked to stay out of the elements on mild days, the family had to take shelter on the porch of their grandmother’s house during stormy weather.

Although their oldest daughter is married, the Tang family has four school-age children to care for. Needing to stay at home with her family, it’s difficult for Mrs. Thoa to earn an income. However, she was able to borrow money to raise pigs, chickens, and ducks at home. Meanwhile, the entire family relies on Mr. Tang’s income as a construction worker.

In this challenging economy, Mr. Tang applies for any work he can get – in or out of the province. Although he works incredibly hard, his daily income of 200k to 300k VND is not enough to set aside savings or spend beyond necessities.

A New Home Brings Hope

Learning of their challenging situation, Kids Promise chose the Tang family to receive Charity House #60. With his background in construction, Mr. Tang and Mrs. Thoa personally helped build their home to save on costs. Not only does this make their new home truly special, it demonstrates the Tang family’s determination to create a better life for their children and rise above their situation.

The Tang family’s new 44m² home is bright and spacious, with enough room for everyone. With ceramic tile floors, carefully plastered walls, and reinforced concrete columns, the new home will be able to withstand any weather and make the family safer. The new home marks a fresh and hopeful chapter for the entire Tang family.
