Family Faced with Flooding, Pandemic Effects and Poverty Gains a New Home
Poor growing conditions, flooding and the ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic have impacted the family of Mr. Nguyen Van Men in Tien Giang Province, Vietnam.
Mr. Men, his wife Thi Moi Huynh, and two young sons live on the land on which Mr. Men was born and raised. Their home, constructed when Mr. Men and Ms. Huynh were married, had begun to tilt because of termite damage and was on the verge of total collapse. The fruit garden that the family tended didn’t flourish in the mangrove environment in which they live, and the property renters who had provided some supplemental income to the family didn’t return because of the coronavirus pandemic. Whenever the local dike breaks, the family’s home is flooded.
Mr. Men’s infrequent income wasn’t enough to cover basic family expenses, and so home repairs were out of the question.
To support this family and provide a better life for the children, Kids Promise dedicated its 27th charity home to them. The structure includes a concrete base and columns, a cool tin roof, an enameled tile floor and colored walls. The new home is built on higher ground, keeping the family safe and dry during the upcoming rainy season.
This home will transform the family’s life and offer a more stable and secure place for their children to grow. We at Kids Promise sincerely thank Mr. Robert Pfeffer of Minneapolis, Minnesota USA who provided 100% of the funding that made this home a reality!
