Safe in a New Home, these Children can Focus on their Education
Kids Promise was honored to recently complete a home for the family of Nguyen Van Nhan and Pham Thi Thuy Hang in Vung Tau Province, Vietnam.
The parents and three children had been living in a home that they could not afford to repair. As a result, the home was in a serious, degraded condition which forced the family to move in with neighbors during the rainy season. Mr. Nhan’s income is just enough to cover the bare necessities for the family, and so the eldest child, age 15, spends her summer holidays working in a grocery store to earn money to pay her school fees. Mrs. Hang is typically at home taking care of the younger children but also does neighborhood tasks, such as grass cutting, to help send the children to school. Without land to farm or raise animals, the family has no additional means of supporting themselves.
Kids Promise constructed a home with a concrete base and columns, a cool tin roof and an enameled tile floor for this deserving family. At the ceremony to officially turn over the home, Kids Promise representatives felt overwhelmed by the family’s happiness and gratitude. No longer burdened with the worry of a dilapidated house and the rainy season, the parents are refocusing their lives on earning an income and the children have the freedom to concentrate on their education.
We’d like to wish all the best to this wonderful family and extend our sincere thanks to Mr. Tan Huynh and Kids Promise sponsors for their financial support that made this home a reality.
