After Family Gives up on Dream for a Home, Kids Promise Helps
Mr. Nguyen Van Cuong had given up on his dream of a stable, solid home for his family. He and his wife had worked and saved money for years in order to raise their children and build a better home than what they were living in. But misfortune plagued the family and stole their dream: Mr. Cuong held a job operating a rice-cutting machine, but a malfunction of the machine caused it to overturn and fall on Mr. Cuong, seriously injuring his back and causing him to leave his job.
As a result, the family income depended mostly on his wife, Mrs. Le Thị Thuy Kieu, and her business selling vegetables at the market. Mr. Cuong ran the household, but suddenly got sick and fell, and needed an expensive operation to recover. His uncle was able to lend him money for the operation, but the family was so deep in debt that they feared they would never get out of it. They gave up on the dream of ever having a safe, adequate home.
But in January 2019, Mr. Cuong and Mrs. Kieu celebrated their Kids Promise charity home in Long An Province. Built with a concrete base, corrugated iron roof, ceramic floor and iron door, the sturdy home protects the family from rain and storms, and allows the children to better focus on their school work. Their forgotten dream has become a reality!
