Kids Promise Home in Tra Vinh Province Allows Daughter to Return to School
With the support of the local government and the family’s relatives and neighbors, we were thrilled to celebrate a new Caring Home for the family of Mr. Pham Hoang Thanh and Mrs. Mai Bich Thuyen in the Tra Cu district, Tra Vinh province of Vietnam.
The couple has three children ages 16, 12 and 11. The family lived with grandparents for a number of years until they needed more space. The family bred cows to make ends meet, but lost money when the business was not successful. The husband is working as a wage earner to make money for the children’s clothing, school fees and daily expenses, while the wife focuses on caring for the children.
Their income was not enough to support the family, however, and so the oldest daughter – who always earned the highest marks in school – had to give up her education in order to help the parents earn more money.
Then, in the summer of 2018, a hurricane destroyed the family’s home and forced them to move to a temporary canvas house. With the new Kids Promise home, the family has committed to continuing schooling for all of their children, and expressed thanks and appreciation to the local government, sponsors, relatives and neighbors for the ability to start anew.
